We just returned from a long-weekend getaway to Grand Marais.   We loaded up the old deer-shack camper and hauled it to the shore for a fall weekend camping trip.   We had lovely weather and we all spent a lot of time outdoors exploring this unique little harbor town and some of the surrounding woodland areas.   There were lots of activities and events that were geared to vacationing families during this weekend's "Moose Madness" family festival.  We took part in a lot of the fun including:  swimming at the YMCA (that has a waterslide!), a city-wide medallion hunt and the Family & Intergenerational Weekend at the North House Folk School (stay tuned for a post about the folk school activities.)

Lots of fun!

::Snapshots from Voyageur's National Park

Our family just returned from a great - three night - camping trip in Voyageur's National Park.  This is a special place for my husband and I, because it is where we met, working at a resort on Crane Lake.

We now have the opportunity, the knowledge of the lakes and the gear to share experiences camping and adventuring in this beautiful place with our children.

Here are some snapshots of our recent adventures:

One of our day trip adventures was to Mica Island where we explored the remnants of an old mica mine and took some time to pick blueberries to add to our oatmeal for our Sunday morning breakfast.

The rest of our trip we spent swimming, fishing, relaxing and spending time together as a family.  We hope take more adventures like this!

The kids and I took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and we took a day trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior.  Just over an hour drive yields opportunity to explore state parks, pebble beaches and waterfalls.  We spent the day picnicking, collecting rocks and reuniting with the sound of crashing waves.  Such a lovely way to spend a Thursday.

Late yesterday afternoon I returned from 6 days away from home.  I attended a summer training intensive for the Yoga 4 Classrooms program in Dover, New Hampshire.  It was a great experience, where I was able to connect with a great group of educators from all across the country and learn a lot of great information that I will be bringing back to my colleagues at my school, and of course, my students.

The days of the training were intense, but I was able to explore my surroundings in the evening time.  I had some adventures with some new friends and some solo time exploring Portland, Maine and Dover and Portsmouth in New Hampshire.

It was a great experience, but I am SO happy to be home.

::a mama & daddy getaway

IMG_9242

 Early this week, the daddy and I ventured on an escape to Denver.  James had a training for work in Denver, and I, quite last minute, decided to use up my two personal days of the school year to tag along.

IMG_9252We were just gone three days, but in that time we were able to have some nice dinners together and to take in some mountain scenery.IMG_9254During the day time, this mama bummed around - taking the bus downtown to do some shopping at the Tattered Cover Bookstore and the huge REI store downtown Denver.PicMonkey Collage

On our trip we had some great food.  We drove into the mountains the first evening eating at a the Bistro and downtown in the LoDo neighborhood the second night.IMG_9260
