Today, while doing chicken chores, the kids found the first egg from our current batch of hens! This is always such an exciting and much anticipated moment. The first eggs (pullet eggs) are always small - and we are likely to find a double yolker in the mix in the next couple of weeks as these ladies are maturing and their laying cycles evening out.
We are happy to have the good fortune to have farm fresh eggs again. And, with the size of our flock, we will probably have some surplus to sell. (I should probably restrain my enthusiasm until we at least get our own first full dozen). Now - we just have to get back into the routine of winter chicken-tending where we have to collect the eggs before they freeze!
